My Extension

Back in 1989, at our home in Tolworth, Surrey, I began to dig by hand the foundations for our new kitchen extension. Never have so many blisters owed so much ............. two full skip loads of London clay. Two loads of ready-mix concrete and about 700 bricks all laid without mechanical aid or help. Then, backfill everything so that only the concrete floor slab and 3 courses of bricks remained on show. All that effort with so little to show. Never have I been so fit and so knackered at the same time. Without giving the punch lines away from my anecdote - 'My Extension' - here are some photos of the work as it progressed. And, being so worn out, I did bring in a brickie to build the walls before I took over again with the roof.
