My best and worst live bands
We all have our favourite bands. As live acts go, my top five to date, in order, are:
- Led Zeppelin – Bath Festival, 1970 - a much younger Rob Plant pictured opposite (copied from our school photo of May1963)
- Creedence Clearwater Revival – Royal Albert Hall, 14th April 1970
- Fairport Convention - Bath Festival 1970
- Steve Winwood - VH1 Studio, Camden (a private recording session), 1997
- Fleetwood Mac – Green’s Playhouse, Glasgow, Autumn 1969
The worst live acts I have seen were:
- The Rolling Stones – Camden Roundhouse, March 1971
- Country Joe & the Fish – City University, 17th October 1974
- Motörhead – the Marquee (Wardour Street), 1975
The band offering the most fun for an evening is undoubtedly the Bill Posters Will Be Band, comprising past members of Bonzo Dogs, Temperance 7 and Bob Kerr's Whoopee Band. Check out their video beneath. We got to know them through Mr. Sam Spoons who, surprising to watch him as the dummy, was a very good cricketer, both of us being members of Battersea Ironsides CC. Oddly, his name on the team sheet was not Sam Spoons. Sadly Sam (Martin) passed in 2019.
